Scrap Girl's Quilt

Hi. I am so happy I finished the quilt. It is such a great feeling of accomplishment when you see the final product.

Hola. Estoy muy contenta de haber terminado el “quilt”. Es un gran sentimiento de satisfacción cuando ves el producto final.

I took the quilt with me to my mom’s for a photo shoot, using her gingers and bird of paradise plants as a beautiful background . It seemed like the perfect day to take the pictures. Early in the morning, my first attempt was very bright, but later the clouds slightly covered the sun and I got my window of perfect light to take the photos that I share with you today.

Llevé conmigo la colchita para la casa de mi mama para hacer una sesión de fotografías utilizando como fondo las bellas plantas “ginger’ y ave de paraíso. Parecía un día perfecto para tomar las fotografías. Temprano en la mañana el sol estaba muy brillante, pero más tarde unas nubes taparon un poco el sol y tuve mi ventana con la luz perfecta para tomar mis fotos que hoy comparto con ustedes.          

It is time to share my work with the world. I can stop looking at all the fabrics; I love each and every slash I used for this quilt. One lucky girl will call this quilt mine.

Es hora de compartir mi trabajo con el mundo. No puedo dejar de mirar todas las telas: adoro cada una de ellas. Una niña con suerte va a poder decir “esta colcha es mía”. 

All the fabric was purchased recently. I used different designers and collections to create this collage of different tones of green and pink.

Todas las telas fueron compradas recientemente. Utilicé telas de diferentes diseñadores y colecciones para crear este mosaico de tonos verdes y rosas.

Currently, I am working on the matching pillow. The fabrics are all sew in together and the quilting has begun. I will post some pictures of the set when ready. Here is the work in progress….

Actualmente trabajo el cojín que le hace juego. Las telas ya están unidas y el “quilting” ha comenzado. Les tendré fotos cuando el juego esté listo. Aquí está el trabajo en proceso.

Spring Hats!

I get so excited when my customers write to me with positive comments after receiving their orders. It really fills up my spirit. After all, this is what it is all about, making something pretty that will be appreciated.  It makes it all worth it. I enjoyed the piece during the making and completion of it, but once it leaves my hands it is someone else's turn to enjoy that unique handmade heirloom. To my customers: Thank You!

Me emociono cuando mis clientes me escriben con comentarios positivos cuando reciben sus órdenes. Me llena el espíritu. Después de todo, de eso se trata, hacer algo con tus manos que sea apreciado por la persona que lo recibe. Hace valer todo el proceso. Yo disfruto de la pieza hecha a mano durante su confección, pero una vez deja mis manos, le paso el turno a la persona que lo recibe. ¡A mis clientes: gracias!

The aqua mist and fuchsia pink yarn used on these crocheted hats are both 100% organic cotton from Debbie Bliss, Italy. I made them using the granny style.

Manteniéndote al tanto…

The hand quilting continues…. It takes so much time but it's looking gorgeous. I love to see how it is taking shape on the back white side. Hoping to finish it soon.

El bordado a mano continúa….toma mucho tiempo pero está quedando maravilloso. Me encanta mirar la pieza para apreciar cómo va cogiendo forma en la parte de atrás de color blanco. Espero terminarlo pronto.

A New Year

I had a wonderful time during Christmas.  I love spending time with family at gatherings thoughout the holidays. Food was delicious but the company was even better.  My holiday spirit was in full mode this year. I loved every minute. The only negative was not having much free time to dedicate to my sewing and crocheting. Sometimes I wish I had more time and energy to do all the projects I would like to do.

Fue una bonita Navidad. Fueron momentos maravillosos compartiendo tiempo con la familia en las diferentes reuniones durante las fiestas navideñas.  La comida estuvo deliciosa pero mejor aún fue la compañía. Mi espíritu navideño estaba en alto este año.  Adoro cada minuto.  Lo único negativo fue el no tener mucho tiempo libre para coser y tejer.  A veces quisiera tener más tiempo y energía para lograr concretar los proyectos que quiero hacer.

The collection!

As the first project of the year, I have decided to begin a quilt perfect for the upcoming spring. Como primer proyecto del año he decidido hacer una colcha perfecta para la primavera que se avecina. Los colores dominantes lo son el verde, rosa y blanco, perfecto para la habitación de una niña. Currently, I am in the process of searching for a new quilting machine (any suggestions?); in the meantime, this is going to be a hand pieced quilt. I wanted to resemble a scrap quilt, but the truth is I bought all the fabrics specifically for this project. 

I was fun cutting all the 225, 3 ½” squares to complete an approximate 45” x 45” finished quilt.

Actualmente estoy en proceso de buscar una nueva máquina de coser colchas (¿alguna sugerencia?); mientras tanto, esta colcha va a ser unida a mano. Quiero que parezca una cocha hecha de sobras pero la realidad es que compre todas las telas especialmente para este proyecto.

Fue divertido cortar las 225 piezas de cuadros 3 ½”  para completar los aproximados 45” x  45” que debe tener la pieza una vez completada.

I am planning to do a matching pillow cover as well.
